Road to the ring

In early spring 2006, motorsport preparation company, Autosportif, decided to take up the challenge of building a Subaru Impreza STI Spec C endurance racer to compete in the legendary 24 hour Nurburgring race.

The car was to be built from scratch and would be driven by a prestigious line up comprising SWRT driver Chris Atkinson, F1 Land Speed record holder Alan Van der Merwe, ex-BTCC driver Phil Bennett and Ringmeister Jonathan Price.

Appearing in the famous blue Subaru livery, the team would be the focus of a ‘fly on the wall’ style documentary which would record their efforts through all stages of design, build, testing and the race itself, charting the rigours of competitive motorsport, the delirious highs and the gut wrenching lows.

For anyone dreaming of champagne sprays and thinking ‘I can do that’, this is a not-to-be-missed reality check which proves that behind the scenes motorsport involves long arduous hours, unimaginable stress and not a lot of glory.

The hour long documentary, ROAD TO THE RING, will be shown on
Wednesday, 13th December at 20.00 and 24.00 on Sky Sports 3.
Thursday, 14th December at 10.00 on Sky Sports 2 and at 15.00 on Sky Sports Extra.
